EVERTON:
It is a sign of how far Everton have come under David Moyes that the club could have up to 10 players at the World Cup.

Yet Tim Cahill has promised fans that no one is thinking of the forthcoming tournament while the Merseyside club step up the chase to qualify for Europe for a fourth successive season.

Australian international Cahill is one of the players in Moyes's squad who could be competing in South Africa.

But with Everton's season still very much alive, Cahill insists the team is totally focused on finishing the season strongly and cementing a place in the Europa League.

With eight games remaining after the weekend, the Merseyside club could move into eighth spot if they beat Bolton and Cahill said:"We've got a lot of players involved in the World Cup but no-one's really resting or trying to save themselves.

"We're going to give everything for the push to the end of the season because European football is a massive feat for us and something we're striving to play in next season. It's nine games to go and we know what points we need to get.

"We're not losing sight of where we want to be, but if we take one game at a time it could be a special season. I'm not one to look too far ahead but we know our targets for the next nine games. It starts against Bolton, so the more games we win we'll definitely have a chance of finishing in a European place."

Strategy: This is a must-win game for Moyes's team if they are to sneak into Europe. With a tough midweek game at Manchester City looming, a draw will be viewed as a setback. Yet the history books suggest a home victory, Everton winning five and drawing one of the last seven meetings between the sides.

Moyes will hope his side are not as generous as they were on their last outing. Leading 2-0 at Birmingham last weekend, they were forced to settle for a point after conceding twice for the second successive away game. A strong defensive performance will be required to combat the threat of Kevin Davies.

Injury Update: With Leon Osman, Louis Saha, Marouane Fellaini and Philippe Senderos sidelined, Moyes is expected to name the side that started at Birmingham. Landon Donovan has returned to LA Galaxy following his successful loan spell.

BOLTON WANDERERS:
Will he or won't he?

That's the big question Bolton's followers are pondering after Owen Coyle revealed on the eve of his team's trip to Merseyside that Gary Cahill could make a remarkable comeback at Goodison Park.

Defender Cahill has returned to training after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his arm on the day of the Fulham game on February 6.

There were fears that he would miss the rest of the season, putting an end to his dreams of a place in England's World Cup squad.

However Cahill's work ethic this week at Bolton's Euxton training base has impressed Coyle and he will monitor the former Aston Villa defender closely before making his decision.

"He has trained ever so well to a very high standard which I have come to expect of him. I have been delighted," said Coyle. "Saturday might be too soon for him, but he is continuing in the right direction.

"That is a tremendous boost for Gary, the club and I would suggest England. It is up to him once he is back in a Bolton shirt to show his qualities and take it from there."

If Cahill does not line up on Merseyside then he is almost certain to feature next Saturday when Manchester United, one of a number of clubs who have been linked with him, visit the Reebok Stadium.

It is a tough few days for Bolton but Coyle is confident his side, who boast an eight-point safety cushion after three wins out of four, can deliver.

"Last weekend (against Wigan) was a valuable three points but we are all grounded, we don't get carried away and we recognise that there is plenty of work ahead of us," said Bolton's Scottish manager.

"Everyone at this club is working hard collectively and that is what we need because we have plenty of big games coming up, starting this Saturday."

Strategy: Bolton fans have become used to seeing their side hovering around the relegation zone, but such has been the team's improvement in results that victory at Goodison will lift them into 12th spot. Boasting an eight-point safety cushion with eight games remaining, their future in the top-tier seems secured but Coyle is taking nothing for granted and is demanding his players continue their resurgence. "We're just focused on going to Everton and getting three points and seeing where that takes us," he said.

Injury Update: Wales defender Sam Ricketts is available again after sitting out last weekend through suspension. Along with Cahill, Mark Davies is also itching to return after recovering from a foot injury that has ruled him out for a month.
